Hmmm...I think I like this idea.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel this way about pretty much every fandom.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see this for every character except Adalind. I think her roll is so defined by the classic traits of a femme fatale that I'm having a hard time imagining her genderswapped...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Genderswapped Sgt. Wu would be the most wonderful thing ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Then Sgt. Wu could be sassy ontop of snarky! It would be so epic!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Omg thisssssssssssssssssss. Team Wu!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am only resistant to genderswapping Nick because there is something about that man that is just smokin' hot to me. I AM SORRY FOR MY SHALLOW.

But even so, this is a splendid idea. :D

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, not me. I LOVE Nick as a man.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That wouldn't help the massive plot holes, cheesy magic, and overuse of deux ex machina, I'm afraid. It wouldn't be a better show...but maybe it could be a more original one.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
My boyfriend and I have adopted the slogan "JUST SHUT UP AND EMBRACE THE CHEESE!" when it comes to Grimm and shows like it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
*Deus ex machina

Also... Don't like it? Don't watch it. It's that simple.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I like it. :) I'm just saying it's completely crap from a storytelling perspective, and genderflipping wouldn't save it. Given how television tends to write women, it would probably make it worse.

I'd like this show a lot more if the main characters were as likeable as the side characters.

I like Monroe and Rosalee a lot more than Nick, Hank or Juliette. They sometimes just feel like cardboard people to me, without genuine emotion. I always feel like the guy playing Nick should have been a model, not an actor - that's about his range and Hank just looks pissed off to me half of the time.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I SO disagree with this. David G (who plays Nick) gets my vote for best performance. His expressions alone sell the character to me. The actors who play Monroe and Rosalee get very cheesy when they do proloned dialog. It's like they are talking to the camera in a kid's video. Oh well, different strokes. The others are of varied talent levels. Adalind being the worse I find.

I'm in a similar boat with Nick - he does seem like a cutout. often, and it doesn't help that his character is frequently written to miss things that are patently obvious to other characters and/or the audience. He's improved a bit this season, though.

I love Monroe, Rosalee - and Hank. His attitude towards finding out about the vesen was perfect - freaked but practical and a bit geeky.

It's one of the biggest dick fests on tv right now, so yeah it really does need a lot more ladies to fill out its cast. A gender swapped version of it would be even better.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it would have really helped if Hank, Wu, or Renard had been female from the beginning, so there'd been someone on the cop side of the equation. And if they tried to add one now, people would complain about shoehorning.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I feel this way about SPN. Well, not the whole cast, but I think I'd like a lot more if they were the Winchester Sisters without any incestuous subtext.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
As long as there was still a fandom of the same size, there would still be people who could find incestuous subtext.

No. Not one of those characters would be improved by that.

Not every thing needs to be genderswapped. It's become the new thing to run into the ground hasn't it

I'd like it exactly the same amount (just because of different reasons), *IF* the writers could write female characters properly. The idea *is* awesome, but the quality would depend on the execution, and according to the proofs we have (for example their varying success in writing Juliette), we'd probably end up with more bland characters.

This is the only show on tv where I'd read genderswap for *any* character. Hap would be amazing, Renard would be beautiful and magnificent, Wu would be snarky and sassy and great, Adalind could be played by David Anders, Juliette would be played by a (seriously... *any*, I'm not picky) red-haired guy, Angelina would be a classic "bad boy on a motorbike", Marie would be another classic trope, a mentor, with Monroe we'd get a female character who's referred to by her last name, instead of Barry/Roddy that part of the fandom would ship Molly/Gracie or Molly/Carly Kampfer, and... Yep, I haven't thought about this before... at all.

The tl!dr-version: The idea is awesome, but I can't trust the current writers to do it right.

I'd find quite a few more tv shows interesting if it was so. Currently just so bored with team boys in a story I'd potentially find interesting
