Conquering the earth is at least an understandable goal.

I don't know. Conquering the earth is a very daunting task - as a goal, it might be like biting off more than you can chew. XD

Eating people wasn't really Hannibal's main goal. He just wanted to get rid of people that annoyed/disgusted him. Eating them was just an added benefit.

To me offing some people you find obnoxious seems a little more understandable than mass genocide, but to each his own.

Not that doing either of those two things is remotely excusable.
