I'm going to ignore the second part of the secret and say:

Of course it's not wrong to desire feedback! I personally don't mind when an author asks for it, but it gets seriously annoying when they beg or say things along the lines of "I won't update unless I get X number of reviews". Then I just stop reviewing on principal regardless if I'm enjoying the story or not.

Exactly this. Everyone wants feedback, but it's when you're whining and crying and begging for more comments/kudos that it gets kind of pathetic and annoying.

or when you're whining and crying and begging for feedback that meets your standards.

ie 'I don't like kudos'
'don't leave RITE MOAR'
'comment about three things you like and one you hate or don't bother'

trying to dictate how to leave comments and in which form is 'acceptable' is boorish and entitled.
