I mean both statements are great but there isn't really anything connecting them. I'm having trouble parsing this, OP.

'How dare you want to make something that people enjoy? That's not what Art is about! It's all about you!'

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 12:05 am (UTC)(link)Which is all well and good when you're writing the Great American Novel or painting something that won't be appreciated until you cut off your ear and you've been dead for a while. But fanfic is never going to be the Great American Novel, and it's okay want comments - just like published writers want people to buy the books so they get royalties checks, comments are how you "pay" people for fic.
It's like, there's a kink meme, and I fill one or two prompts a month, and I do it all anon because I think it's really ridiculous what I'm writing -- but I know what kinds of prompts will get me a dozen or more comments telling me that I'm a great writer. Sometimes, that's all I want to hear. That I can write something that I don't care about, but know that it makes other people happy.

Not quite the same as people who put effort into their craft and write for fandoms that inspire them (no matter how tiny).

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 01:45 am (UTC)(link)Of course it's not wrong to desire feedback! I personally don't mind when an author asks for it, but it gets seriously annoying when they beg or say things along the lines of "I won't update unless I get X number of reviews". Then I just stop reviewing on principal regardless if I'm enjoying the story or not.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)ie 'I don't like kudos'
'don't leave RITE MOAR'
'comment about three things you like and one you hate or don't bother'
trying to dictate how to leave comments and in which form is 'acceptable' is boorish and entitled.
