A few strips earlier, the girl was attacked by a bunch of guys for being a feminist. A guy who had earlier claimed to be the girl's ally was watching nearby, and did nothing to help her. That's the context for the strip.

I don't think the author is trying to say there's no male allies (especially since he supposedly IS one), I think this is a commentary on how sometimes male allies fall short of their duties because they don't always get or understand what women go through.. The guy in the strip who claimed to be a male ally, that character has always been kind of a self-insert for the author, so maybe it's him admitting that even though he cares about women's issues, he's been guilty of standing by when he knew something needed to be done.

I could be wrong of course, that's just my interpretation of it.

I... I don't know. What I would get out of that is "someone I thought was a friend saw me getting attacked and didn't do anything or go for help", not "there are no male allies".

Or if it was a purely verbal attack, the kind where getting help wouldn't really help, I'd see "my friend elected not to jump into the shark tank with me, probably just as well, I'm supposed to be ignoring these people anyway, not that that ever works, I'll consider myself authorized not to stick my neck out for him if it comes up", not "there are no male allies".

Or maybe, "someone I thought was my friend picked his asshole friends over me and the right thing".

I get that it's supposed to be an allegory, but... Ugh. Maybe it's supposed to be the kid proclaiming the nonexistence of male allies so she doesn't have to process the personal betrayal?

Yeah, the fact that the character immediately jumps into "there's no such thing as male allies" makes her seem too straw for my taste. Like, if she had that as a secondary reaction, yeah, but that being her immediate reaction? She feels like a parody of a feminist. :/

One of the problems with that though is the horrible inconsisent writing.

It was "devil" slick that failed to help in contrast to the earlier slick.

It's oddly unclear if "devil" characters are supposed to be the dark sides of characters, separate from them otherwise (compare Devil Seymor who's apparently into girls to the gay regular Seymor), or merely them at their darkest, away from prying public eyes.

The Whole thing is inconsistent and seems to change for whatever peachy point Ishida wants to give. What it's not is half as funny as it used to be.
