Nah. There isn't one feminism. It's a collection of movements.

So there are feminists actually out there accomplishing shit. They just aren't as good at being vocal on the internet as those who care about feels and ownership.

This is true, and that was an embittered reaction. I've seen some great work done by dv charities and such.

Honestly though feminism as any kind of political movement and discourse of value seems to have been irreparably hijacked by the radfem groups in the mid to late eighties, and just poisoned everything that's followed. Just look at the politicised nonsense that passes itself off in academia, it's embarrassing and drove me to specialise elsewhere despite my interest.

Nope. men can be feminists. "feminist ally" is a stupid term. feminist means someone who values and fights for gender equality, and recognize that women are getting the short end of the stick in most situations.

Men getting huffy because they cannot claim a label, and then demanding that they can is pretty much the raison d'être for feminism existing.

Until men can manage to suck it up and realize that just because they want a label doesn't mean they can take it, then feminism will be needed.

Men demanding to be feminists is pure male patriarchy in action, they saw a party going and felt they had a right to be in it. Men getting upset by being told they can be allies, fine, but not a material part of the movement and throwing a fit because of it; that is why feminism is still relevant and needed. Men, check your sense of entitlement at the door please. You are not entitled to a place at the table, no matter how much you think you ought to be, nor how much you try and twist words and loophole lawyer meanings into trying to get in by the cat flap.

Nope, feminism is about empowering women so they can take equality. You can't do that if it is only done by men coming in, claiming to be feminists and saying that women can have equality only when men in the movement say they can. That is why men can be allies, but not feminists. Feminism is for women to raise themselves up, not have men be men and doing the lifting for the poor little woman. The latter way is equality like way the sex in secret 17 is consensual sex.
