I have to say it really annoys me sometimes how much science fiction conversation tends to focus around movies and visual media on the Internet. I mean, I know why it happens, but it's still annoying.

It annoys me, too, particularly since sci-fi movies tend to be on the softer side and there's so much good hard sci-fi out there that gets ignored.

The problem with that is time restraint. You can watch a good sci-fi movie in two hours or less but you can't really do that with a good sci-fi book. Reading a book is a commitment. Especially epic ones. And I love reading. But I can see how people would choose a movie over a book if they want a quick form of escapism.
