I don't think I agree. Just for the numbers alone it's not Just as serious.

Rape against women is a society wide institutional problem.
Rape against men is so rare as to be insignificant statistically.

One is clearly more serious, don't you think?.

The reason that men's rape statistics are so low is because no one wants to believe that weak, pathetic women could ever hurt a big strong man, and women are innocent, pure, delicate little flowers while men are virile and adore sex so no one believes that it's possible.

How would you know? A lot of men who were in situations with women that, were the genders reversed would scream RAPE don't actually come forward because society and shame tell them they couldn't possibly have been raped by a woman.

Rape against women is absolutely and institutionalized, serious problem, and nowhere was I intending to downplay it or derail the discussion.

Rape against men is not taken seriously BECAUSE of misogyny and patriarchy and all that bullshit, because "men can't be victims! they're too manly!" and it's considered bad for a man to admit "weakness".

What I am saying is that ALL rape victims, young and old, male and female, of all backgrounds, should be heard and taken seriously.

It's widely accepted that the rape of men frequently goes unreported.

And what about little boys who get raped? Are they not victims? Is it not serious? Because I know several men who were raped as children and it's incredibly serious.

The gender of the victim does not matter. The gender of the rapist does not matter. If we keep perpetuating the myth that rape is something that can only happen to females we are doing the world a disservice. It's almost the same as saying men can't be raped because they have some superior quality that we don't (because immunity to rape would be a bonus).
