thankfully i have never been sexually assaulted myself, so i can understand the disconnect a lot of people feel with it, and i think this is the simplest way to put it

i don't really know what flipped the switch for me, but if bates motel really did do a good job of it, i think that would be a good thing for people who don't "get it" to watch then, since most media really does conflate it with 'just sex', or uses it for edgy shock value that works to desensitize

I agree with you here. A lot of rape scenes I've seen come off as if they're supposed to titillate the observer which is just... gross.
