"Just do something besides TV/movies/comic books/video games!"

Well that is why I study film and television, I can talk about it all day without sounding weird.

Today I had a really long conversation on the phone with one of my classmates about how gays and PoC are represented in media and why we should be taught more about it in the subject we are having now.

oh and about how non serious shows handle serious subjects, and why Horror movies suck, and why most High School movies give teenager the wrong view of what makes them worth something.

Okay that got away from me a bit, what I was going to say was: you can actually do something with fandom obsessions and you don't exactly need other hobbies...

My boss things all the workers in my area are irresponsible children (nevermind that we do as much work as all NINE other branches and that we did it severely understaffed as well) because of almost this--many of us are serious Story Buffs. Especially about comics and movies. And while we work, we talk about them in excruciating detail. Because at least two of us (possibly more) freaking majored in this stuff and have been studying it for a decade or so and it's fascinating.

But yeah, to some people, it just sounds like kids talking about superheroes and sci-fi.

It is great that you guys are doing an awesome job while talking about fun stuff!

Lately we have been discussing (after lectures) about the impact media has on our worldview and that impact is huge so I see nothing wrong in talking about Superheroes or Sci-Fi.

I guess if one only talk about the hotness of an actor or something that isn't really a productive use of ones time? Though I am a big believer in letting people do what they want as long as they aren't hurting anyone...
