You could do it in private with your friends. Who doesn't? Making a public debacle out of the snarking like what those communities used to be all about is what bothers me.

This. It's really just a pretty shitty thing to do in public, especially when there's going to be a malicious tone to it, whether as a product of the types of people who are drawn to those communities, or something the administration itself would help along.

It's why I think I enjoy wtffanfiction, since it keeps a pretty lighthearted tone, and I don't have to see any actual dickish comments.

NAYRT

Also, the wtffanfiction mods have a policy of not linking to the fanfics or the people who wrote them. The problem I have with a lot of sporking communities is how they often seem more interested in bashing the writers than mocking the fanfics.

I think that's why I like fanfiction_txt, too. It just posts a snippet and that's that. You don't even have to read the replies, though sometimes those can be genuinely funnier than the quote itself.

I do sometimes but my friends and I mostly don't read in the same fandoms. And I agree that wtffanfiction probably has the best approach re: public snarking since they don't link/identify the authors...it did bug me how a lot of those comms required a link back to the story.
