Have you ever been chatting with someone on a big com on LJ or DW and suddenly discover that you actually know the person.

Just happened to me and kinda freaked me the hell out.

Nah, but I met someone irl that went to the same fairly small forum as me.

I found out one of my students follows me on tumblr.

Blocked that shit soooooo hard.

I am soooo worried about that, since mostly I write porn for tumblr.

Heh, that happened before - I didn't know her personally, but she was actually in my younger sister's class.

We ended up taking the same creative writing courses in uni and are still friends.

A few years ago I found myself talking to one of my real life friends on Gaia. I didn't know it at the time but she said something very distinctive that I associate with her and I was like, "Oh hey, I have a friend who says that all the time." She replied, "I am that friend." Blew my mind. Thing is though, it might not count since she searched me out.

Technically this could happen to a lot of the people here who I also follow on tumblr. I use a different name and who I am hasn't really come up. However, very few people even talk to/know tumblr me so I doubt it would be a big thing. It would probably just be something like, "Oh, follower 106 is FJ. Huh."

It's happened on 4chan a couple times. Never on here.

Close - I friended somebody on LJ that turned out to be an RL friend of my partner's. Sorta funny but not that surprising :P

YES, SORTA. I was in in the sytycd comm on LJ and I recognized someone who had the same name as a friend's email that she just gave to me at the time. I was like, GURL IS THAT YOU?!

She's one of my besties now, ahaha.

I found my cousin on a weight loss community on LJ. We'd been talking for a while before I saw some old pictures of her (they'd been previously f-locked) and was like HOLY SHIT ARE YOU MY COUSIN LINDA??!!

Yeah. That was weird. And unfortunate. I wouldn't have said anything but when friend'd each other she had access to my photos too, so.

...yeah, that's freaky.

That sort of happened to me, or at least to people I know. At college, I became friends with M through a LARP group on campus. We were class of '05. I live in the area, so I stuck around after graduation, while she moved back home halfway across the country.

While continuing to participate in the LARP group, I made friends with B a few years later. B was class of '11. After she graduated, we remained good friends and kept in touch regularly, so when M was putting together a tabletop roleplaying game over IM, I told her that I knew someone who might be interested: B.

As it turned out, M and B had met online in a fandom RP over on LJ before B had come to college (before I'd ever met her). It was kind of a weird coincidence all around.

I work with an f!s posters' husband, but I don't know him.
