(Anonymous) 2013-04-22 07:35 am (UTC)(link)And sometimes it *is* about representation. When you have exactly *one* "token minority" character in the show you watch, you don't really have any choice in the matter (you ship them with someone or not).
I was (kinda) like you before: I didn't have any ship with PoC characters, and I was bothered by it. Then Lost happened, and CSI:New York (and then CSI:New York kinda un-happened), and NCIS:LA (and then NCIS:LA unhappened too), and then came Grimm and Common Law, I re-watched some ER, some Third Watch (although I didn't go to look for fic), and now I'm actually on ship!high, there's a shiny new OTP growing, Diggle/Oliver from Arrow, and oh boy, there's nothing wrong with representation in the last one! :-)
tl!dr: You can like what you want, and shipping habits may change.
