Used doujinshi store search service? (Wow, that's one awkward sentence...)

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2013-04-22 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of proxy services available for people who want to shop/bid at Japanese sites/auctions -- but is there one that offers to go searching in used doujinshi stores? I'm thinking it'll have to be an individual person on LJ or wherever, rather than an actual company (which is why it's hard to google).

In case you're wondering, I'm asking because I've been trying to get this specific doujinshi since friggin' 2009. It's the sixth and possibly final installment in a series, and I want to read it so badly, gah...!

You mean like a a physical store? :O

If it ever pops up on yahoo auctions, yokattaweb is the proxy I've used (communication by mail), don't know what others prefer.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I keep pretty close check on YJA (and a bunch of other auctions sites), but it never shows up. Apparently there was one auction, in February, which I naturally missed -- I wish there was some kind of notification system available.

What doujin is it? I've only got one more day in Japan, but I can try to look for it if you want.

Aw, that's super-sweet of you! I wouldn't want you to waste your last day in Japan doing stuff for a complete stranger, but if you are in a shop anyway I'd reeeally appreciate it! It's a Final Fantasy X doujinshi, called 海が落ちる都市6 by mount-10 (のざらし奉行). This is what the cover looks like: http://i38.tinypic.com/2lt6i9s.jpg

It's okay bro! I can't promise anything, but I am planning to hit up some stores if I can, so I'll definitely keep an eye out! :D

Are you a member of [profile] doujin_market or [profile] doujin_shoppu? I seem to recall people having advertized just such a proxy service there before.

Seconding the what doujinshi is it question, though. I live in Japan right now myself, have been into buying/selling them for years, and I could if nothing else if you an estimate on the likelihood of that doujinshi being in a used store (and whether or not it would more likely be found in Lashingbang, Toranoana, or Mandarake).

I think I used to be a member of both, but I haven't checked them out lately. I'll give them a look!

And thank you, I really appreciate that! It's a Final Fantasy X doujinshi, 海が落ちる都市6 by mount-10 (のざらし奉行). Here's a cover scan: http://i38.tinypic.com/2lt6i9s.jpg

Sadly, FFX is ancient fandom terms (as you are doubtless aware) so unless it was released in the last year or two by a very popular circle, Toranoana and Lashinbang wouldn`t be carrying it.

That leaves Mandarake. (However, Mandarake`s generally cheaper, so there`s that.) Manadarakes still have a large FF section dating all the way back to FFVI. If you know someone/find a proxy who lives in Osaka or Tokyo they`ll have the best chance of finding it for you because both have multiple stores.

I live in Kyoto myself, and will probably make semi-regular trips to the two Manadarakes there, so I`ll keep an eye out for you if you like.

Yeah, it's old -- and it was never the most popular of fandoms either. I think the circle might be pretty popular though...? In any case I remember back in 2009, when the doujinshi was added to YouClub, it sold out before my proxy service could order it for me (which was a matter of hours).

So if you can keep an eye out for it I'd truly, truly appreciate it! You can reach me at galerian.ash@gmail.com ♥
