I have seen some truly terrible authors who have put out longer fics (it astounds me that anybody can go on for much longer than 10k words without so much as a peep from punctuation, let alone extending a fic long enough for a big bang!) but you're mostly right. Most bad authors won't be able to last long, while for art, it's hard to put a perimeter on quality and so forth. That's why quite a number of authors can end up with bad art for fics they put their heart into
