I agree with the other poster about finding a beta, or just someone to bounce ideas off of. If you don't have any friends who are into fandom, or anyone else you know you can trust, there used to be some good communities on LJ for this sort of thing.

I've been out of the loop for a long time, so I don't have any recommendations of off-hand, but it might be worth browsing some writing communities for :)
