I understand that, but in this case it isn't even *shocking*. Every time someone does something that has anything to do with the Borgias this particular scandal *and* this interpretation is used. It's old, it's tired, and it's not even particularly relevant historically.

But it's definitely fan service, and if it's true what I heard about the show not getting a 3rd season, I can see why they're letting it happen. You can't even pretend that a significant portion of the fanbase doesn't ship it.

I'm wanting to track down the other version of the show - because hopefully that is a little bit less Hollywood, and more historical. ...the characters aren't as pretty, but it might be the better show.
