haha, I always get a kick out of it when silly movies/shows have a lot of ridiculously dramatic/angsty fanfic. I was surprised at how much angst was in the Ed Edd and Eddy fandom...

Re: ns2

I think it's because comedy/silliness is a LOT harder to write well than ridiculous angst is.

it provides a balance for angsty source materials that seem to generate mostly fluffy coffee shop aus.

LOL! Sentiment & snark, all in one. Love it.

Sooooo... no room for subtext and subtleties between characters, then, eh? Were you the kid in my tenth grade English class who was annoyed when symbolism wasn't transparent enough?

pffft, as if that's the most unrealistic thing about that show...

It's a bit laughable, the way you group together all "European tribes". You're also wrong -- homosexuality existed outside of Rome, in various forms of acceptance.

Thanks for the apology. However, please note that the US is one of the major global powers. We aren't an oppressed group that needs to be treated carefully.

So while this is really nice of you, you don't owe anyone anything beyond not being a jerk.

The movie is focused on teenage characters and targets fans of Glee (who are also mostly teenagers), and because teenagers are as hormonal as a human ever is, they tend to write the most overdramatic, cringe-worthy fic in fandom. -looks at own fanfic during those formative years and runs away-

You're entitled to your opinion but imo Agron and Nasir had one of the better developed relationships on the show. It didn't seem sudden at all. (Even back then I thought that pairing would happen based on their first few encounters.)

Anyway, I thought Daniel and Pana had amazing chemistry and all their scenes were moving and felt very natural. *shrugs*

All of this ♥

Agreed, all of this. Waaaay more developed and natural approach to a relationship than the Sibyl fiasco. Or the whole Mira thing, for that matter. Why throw a perfectly good character into the "second-banana girlfriend" ghetto?

You'll want to look at that little abbreviation in the 8th line, OP. AUs. These are AU fics; why are you so surprised that they deviate from canon? Beyond that, my experience is that AUs about rape, eating disorders, and cancer are reasonably standard in just about any fandom, regardless of the subject/tone of the source material.

Re: NS!2

(Anonymous) 2013-04-24 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure OP wasn't saying they don't understand AUs, they are saying they don't understand why the fandom is filled pretty much solely with them.

I didn't even know Pitch Perfect had fandom! I have nothing to say about the fics, but I'm glad someone else here has seen it. ♥

So... if they felt the need to have a gay couple at all time? so what? sounds good to me. Like I could give a fuck about what was real and what was not in Europe a zillion years ago.

It's fine? (The jokes aren't fine, really, but you be angry is. Probably.) Honestly, quite a few of its own citizens hate the US. The bombings don't change that. The bombing were horrible. Horrible things happen all over the world. The only thing that needs to be learned is that a country is not its people. Not exactly. It's very possible to think the government is bad while not villainizing its citizens.

Yes, and no. Roman's accepted it...if you happened to be the 'dominate' [AKA penetrating] partner - but if you were the receptive/'submissive' partner? Then no. No, they didn't. There is a reason some historians speculate that the reason Caesar became a ladies man was *because* of the way people treated him when it was assumed, or at least joked about, him being the receptive partner in a homosexual relationship.

So, I guess the best way to put it is 'No. The Romans didn't accept it the way you seem to be assuming they did.'

I thought Pitch Perfect's main character was a pretty angsty teenager too. But yeah, it's fanfic. There doesn't have to be an explanation! Writers will write what they want to write, and most of the time it's angst.

Incorrect! homosexuality was accepted. You just didn't talk about it since it was none of your fucking business what someone did behind closed doors.
