Little things that made you ship something

I had a dream that someone posted this topic, so I figure I had better make that come true!

For example, what made me start shipping Ayumu/Hiyono from Spiral was the fact that she is a year older than him. She does not act like it at all so it is cool for me that they have that kind of age dynamic! See. Little things.

Age difference is a huge thing (which is a major reason why I started shipping Rose/Nine from Doctor Who from the start).

I also love it when the characters are very snarky or sarcastic towards each other. Or when they can hardly tolerate each other, but slowly learn to appreciate/tolerate the other.

I have a harder time shipping characters who have similar personalities.

Also, the whole calm character/wild character is a major turn-off. Case in point:

Remus/Sirius from Harry Potter
Iruka/Kakashi from Naruto
Clint/Phil from The Avengers
Brian/Michael from Queer As Folk

I much prefer it when both characters are very rough around the edges, only in different ways.

Honestly, affection, giving a vibe of being able to see each other day in day [thus knowing each other's annoying little habits] and *still* being totally in love.

...Weird, I know but little moments that give that kind of thing.

Byakuya Kuchiki/Ichigo Kurosaki

The fight with Byakuya toward the end of the SS arc is *literally* the only one Ichigo ever seems to really enjoy. It was the least angsty fight Ichigo ever fought. He went into it grinning and eager, clearly having anticipated the battle, had an almost friendly air toward Byakuya despite clashing swords and berating him for his treatment of Rukia, then screams "I won!" to the sky after it was over.

Every other fight Ichigo gets into in the entire 535 (and counting) chapters is ~serious business from beginning to end (endings usually including some sort of depressed look), before and after the one with the SS arc finale, but he really seemed to take joy in fighting Byakuya.

That lightheartedness, and the faith and genuine respect Ichigo clearly has for Byakuya and how Byakuya subtly and explicitly has returned it, just really *made* that ship for me. They're enough alike and enough different to both get along and challenge each other. I love relationships that have a solid foundation like that - quiet but strong.

Someone on the kink meme (I think) pointed out that the only dwarf Thorin doesn't give a command to during The Hobbit is Dori. That was all it took! Now I ship it hard.
