Re: How do you define happiness?
(Anonymous) 2013-04-24 01:34 am (UTC)(link)Growing up, it was always heavily implied that my happiness hinged on financial security and the attainment of signs of wealth (a house, a new car, etc...), but seeing this idea drive my mother nearly insane with stress sort of turned me off of that philosophy in general. I don't have a lot of money or a high-paying job, and I'm ears-deep in debt from student loans, and I experience a lot of stress... But I have a loving partner, a wonderful (if somewhat assholish) cat, a roof over my head, and decent food. I may never be rich enough to attain "signs of wealth," but chances are, even if I had the money, I wouldn't bother with them anyway. I don't want for much, so I'd rather spend the money on fun things rather than on things that cry, "I've made it in life and I want everyone to know about it."
