Real life things that annoy you more than they should

(Anonymous) 2013-04-24 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I have this paranoid fear when I'm eating nachos that I will run out of toppings halfway through and be left with plain old chips. To prevent this, I eat almost-naked chips for about half the nachos, in hopes of saving the delicious goodness for truly epic nachos at the end.

If I'm on my last few nachos and you steal one, we are enemies FOR LIFE.

How about you, F!S? What are your silly pet peeves? :)

I am very protective over food too (my family says I eat like someone just out of prison), but it is mostly likely the result of growing up poor and the middle child.

I hate, hate, hate when people bend the covers of my books back. Ugh. Respect the book damnit!

I just literally cringed back at that thought. Can't stand this either.

Or dogear the pages. Get a freakin' bookmark! Heck, any impromptu bookmark would work. A ticket stub, a post-it note, a receipt, anything is better than folding down the corners of the pages.

I hate lending books in general because I feel like nobody treats them with respect but me. Or maybe it's just that people who treat books with respect tend to have plenty of their own and don't need to borrow mine.

I won't lend my books to anyone unless they promise not to bend, crease or otherwise mistreat them. Which basically means that I don't lend my books to anyone.

I've owned books for years without creasing the spines or bending the covers, reading them over and over again, so I really don't understand why other people can't manage it. Just...hold it right, damn it.

When people jump to conclusions about what they think I'm thinking...and they get it so, so, so, wrong, but they proceed anyway, making everyone's lives 100% more awkward. I know I should find it hilarious, but it's pretty much an instant berserk button for me.

I do the nachos thing as well! I actually do that with any food that involved any sort of dip or topping, so at the end there is always a TON.

Silly pet peeve: I really, really hate it when people have a billion different half-full bottles of shampoo, body wash, conditioner, etc in the shower. The clutter bothers me, even though I know on a rational-level that different people in a house = different hair/skin types = different products.

I don't like people touching my electronics and I especially don't like touching other peoples' electronics. This is a problem because I work in a place with people waaaay older than me who keep shoving their new phone or camera into my hands so I can explain/program something. Or they just grab my cell where it's sitting to get a better look at the case.

I'm not usually that germaphobic but uuuuuuugh. I can't dive for the hand sanitizer fast enough.

Me too! I think it's because I can see all the skin oil and fingerprints on there, and feel it, a little bit. I visible fingerprints on things, and I hate when people use my phone and hold it RIGHT UP AGAINST their face so all the oil from their face gets all over it. UGH.

I sell concessions at a theatre company, and we sell wine. I went out of town so someone else sold stuff one weekend and they left in a very sorry state indeed. But the thing that pissed me off the most was that they had 3 bottles of the same kind of wine open. Use all of one bottle and then open another, raaaaar! There were 3 bottles in the fridge because you chill the white wine, not because all 3 were open!

I just really hate it whenever someone comes into my room and forgets to close the door. I don't care if I'm sleeping or whatever, just close the damn door! I get so annoyed when I wake up in the morning and find the door open.

People standing close behind me while I'm on the computer. It doesn't matter what I'm doing or how mundane or innocuous it is, it feels like a cyst in my personal space bubble.

Hate this. And my dad does it, and gets pissed when I minimize everything. He says it's annoying because "he's not looking at what I'm doing." But when I don't do it he does look. And comments.

The word 'prata' (SG or Malaysia) bugs the hell out of me. To me it feels like someone spelling pancakes 'pcake' or something, because I'm so used to hearing/saying paratha or parantha.

One that I ran across while doing Model UN: "new-kew-ler" instead of "new-klee-er". Stop it. You have just spent a week studying this. You are not George W. Bush. PRONOUNCE THE DAMN WORD CORRECTLY.

Which I never said, mostly because I myself tend to pronounce things as they're written, and so have exactly no leg to stand on here.

Anyone telling me what I think.

People looking at me like they're laughing at me a little bit. Not like I said something funny, or even did something dumb that was hilarious (neither of those things bother me), but when they look at me like I'm this funny little thing that's actually pretty stupid, but kind of amusing to mess with for a while. GRRR. Makes me want to kick them in their smug face.

I'm the same way about nachos!

My big buttons are people hovering close behind me for any reason and people dragging their feet when they walk.

Tags sticking out of other people's clothing, twisted collars/straps/hems, lint or a hair hanging off.... I want to reach out and *fix it*. I do not, but omg, it drives me nuts.

Also, people who eat a crumbly food over the clean counter and then don't wipe up the damn crumbs I'M LOOKING AT YOU, FAMILY.

I really like those little square kind of chalky mints that come in different colours/flavours, except I hate peppermint, which is the flavour of the white ones, which are always the majority. One time I got a big bulk bag and spent ages forcing myself to eat all the horrible white ones first so I would have nothing but delicious left. I had just finished the last of the white ones, but felt I had eaten enough candy for the day, so I left them for later. Then my brother came along and ate the entire bag. That was like 15 years ago and I'm still mad.

I hate it when people skip over verses or lines when they sing a song, or mix words from different lines or verses, or repeat a verse because they don't remember or don't know the rest of the words. This is such a silly thing to be bothered by, and I don't know why it annoys me so. It just does.

Getting grease stains (including oil from one's skin) on the covers of my books and notebooks. Accidentally trailing the cover of a notebook through a shmear of grease that I didn't know was on the table honestly distresses me.

Any grating noise, like the noise you get in winter when the sidewalks are covered in grit, and then you come inside and walk across the terazzo floor and hear "crch crch crch" underfoot because the mats are so covered in grit that wiping your feet does no good.

And this is really silly, but I hate Lorena McKennit's voice for the very petty reason that she converts a short "e" to a broad short "a" every time--so Bess, the landlord's daughter in "The Highwayman" becomes "Bass, the landlord's daughter." Um...no.

People leaving lights on all over the house. You just passed through the room, turn off the damned light. The furniture does need electric light at night; furniture does not have eyeballs.

The butter left out on the counter, especially in summer. It's right next to the fridge, but could they open the door and put it back in the nice cold box? Aw hell no. Arrgh!

People who can't pour a cup of coffee without dripping coffee all over the counter, and who also can't pull a paper towel off the roll and wipe up the mess they just made.
