I am very protective over food too (my family says I eat like someone just out of prison), but it is mostly likely the result of growing up poor and the middle child.

I hate, hate, hate when people bend the covers of my books back. Ugh. Respect the book damnit!

I just literally cringed back at that thought. Can't stand this either.

Or dogear the pages. Get a freakin' bookmark! Heck, any impromptu bookmark would work. A ticket stub, a post-it note, a receipt, anything is better than folding down the corners of the pages.

Or use highlighter. It makes it about 75% harder for me to read, I wish people who need that kind of color contrast for studying would just photocopy the page or take handwritten notes to highlight on rather than messing up the text.

YES!

I hate borrowing a book from the library only to find it ruined because someone ran a highlighter through it.

I hate lending books in general because I feel like nobody treats them with respect but me. Or maybe it's just that people who treat books with respect tend to have plenty of their own and don't need to borrow mine.

I won't lend my books to anyone unless they promise not to bend, crease or otherwise mistreat them. Which basically means that I don't lend my books to anyone.

I've owned books for years without creasing the spines or bending the covers, reading them over and over again, so I really don't understand why other people can't manage it. Just...hold it right, damn it.

Eh, some people (me) just don't care. I don't need my books to look super pristine and out-of-the-bookstore, I enjoy them looking they've actually been read.
