I have never read the Harry Potter books and I never will. Fantasy novels bore me to tears. But I love the movies (though I am not in the fandom). I am sure I am missing thousands of little facts and such, but I don't really care.

Fantasy that takes me longer than 3 hours to consume yes. Fantasy books are different than fantasy movies.

Yeah, but that's different from people who say they're in fandom when they haven't read the books. To me, that doesn't really count. Fandom = being a fan, or at least having been one at some point. Except not so much these days, it seems.
