Unfucked habitat anon - again (tw: cutting)
(Anonymous) 2013-04-24 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)Everything seemed set to go, we signed the lease she insisted on having (I own the place and she kept acting like I could do rental history checks and shit and I'm like what?). Then she texts me asking to bring a guy over and 'clean the common areas'.
You know the common areas that I spent two weeks cleaning. That took massive amounts of help and me having practically losing my mind and crying almost all the time. Not to mention I have, uhm, issues with guys in my space (and she'd been told about this).
So, yeah, I sort of COMPLETELY LOST MY MIND. Flipped over my coffee table - which broke a shit ton of stuff and sliced up my arm.
Long story short: I don't have a roommate moving in anymore. And now my mom is making noises about putting me in a group home or just a long term mental ward. Against my will.
She'll most likely back off once she sees the prices of such things but...
I sort of hate myself and everyone involved. And now I can never go to any place she goes because I'm a horrible person and she'd already given her apartment notice and I ruined everything for her.

They should not have done that. I'm sorry you had to go through that, and I hope you're not too badly hurt. But seriously - you're not the one at fault here. (Unless you threw the coffee table at them, in which case - don't do that.)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-25 03:36 am (UTC)(link)You didn't ruin anything for her. She ruined it for herself, by wanting to bring in a guy when you told her that was a no-go.
I am 90% sure that your mother can't commit you to a long-term place against your will. You usually have to be a danger to yourself or to others, and even then it't a short term thing.
But now that you have done the major clean, if you keep doing one or two 20/10s a day (or what ever you did, I can only do about fifteen minutes before I get overwhelmed and then I need a fifteen minute break) it will stay clean enough to get another roommate, one who respects your issues with guys in your space. And also that may convince your mother that you can keep living on your own. And, most importantly, you deserve to live in a clean place!
If you do get another roommate, though, you might want to think about having a lease, because it's always good to have things spelled out in writing. Depending on your local laws, you could even put the thing about guys in your space in there.
You are not a horrible person. You are setting limits, which is a healthy thing. And when people don't respect your limits, you're removing them from your life. That is a good thing. I hope you are okay now. Maybe not great, but okay.
