You know, I've never cross-referenced the writers/directors of the episodes with the times I didn't like or did like the Doctor, particularly Eleven. It does seem like there might be something to it.

I remember, back around mid-S3 of Merlin, I started cross-referencing the directors and/or writers of various episodes of the show and found there was one particular combination that was fantastic and one that was god awful, and most fell towards one end or the other of the middle. It was pretty useful in figuring out which of the rest of the S3 episodes I probably would and wouldn't like.

I lost all those notes by S4, though. :(

I haven't done anything like that for the Doctor, but now that I've read this secret, I kind of want to, just to see what comes up...

Yeah, I get that. I know I was much happier about this half-season of DW when I saw that Stephen Moffat was only writing two episodes ("Bells of St. John" and the season finale).

Moffat is THE WORST. His schtick is seriously getting old now and he makes even the best characters unlikeable twits.

Worst is that he strikes me as some one very self-important and probably unable to handle criticism of his ~wonderful work~.

IA. I swear I read an interview with him once where Moffatt basically said he ignored any criticisms leveled against his work [not this exact article but similar to http://www.thebacklot.com/doctor-who-show-runner-steven-moffat-its-the-one-criticism-ive-ever-listened-to/08/2011/]. It baffles me since I respect and appreciate concrit on my own work, but maybe if I was the showrunner of "Doctor Who" I'd be singing a different tune. *shrugs*

Er...why would this be worse than uniformly disliking him? Wouldn't you be glad that you only dislike him part of the time? I dunno about you, but it's kind of a pain in the neck for me when I don't like the main character of a show I like, so if I can't like them all of the time, I'd prefer to at least like them some of the time.

'Course, regardless of your opinion of his writing, this really doesn't say much for Moffat's script editing abilities...

Heh, it's funny that BBC America now keeps running a behind-the-scenes ad thingy where Moffat says Matt Smith is so distinctive that everyone writes him with the exact same voice. Maybe he's onto you, OP.
