Re: How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Swedish: Sex laxar i en laxask. = Six salmons in a salmon-box.

Danish: Da de hvide kom til de vilde, ville de vilde vide, hvad de hvide ville de vilde. Og da de vilde fik at vide, hvad de hvide ville de vilde, ville de vilde ikke vide af de hvide. = When the white came to the wild, the wild wanted to know what the white wanted with the wild. And when the wild learned what the white wanted from the wild, the wild no longer wanted anything to do with the white. (...This one doesn't translate well, but it's quite something to hear it spoken. If I recall correctly "the wild" are intended to be Native Americans, and "the white" colonizers.)

Oh wow, I've never heard that one and I'm Danish. It's an awesome one, though!

Yeah, I love it too! Also, though it's more of proverb than a tongue twister, I adore "hvis og hvis min røv var spids (og fyldt med remoulade/marmelade/etc.)"

True, but it definitely works very well as a tongue twister heh. Oh god yes, that one is kind of awesome (and potentially hilarious in translation, come to think of it).

Another Swedish one: Kvistfritt kvastskaft. Means 'knot-free broomstick'.

Is it just me, or are Swedish tongue twisters typically shorter than tongue twisters in other languages?

Hey, that's a good point! Another typical one is "sju sjösjuka sjömän", and that's also very short...

True, although I've heard the at least slightly longer version sju sjösjuka sjömän sköljde skjortorna i sjön.

(Pronunciation instructions for non-Swedes! Transliterated into English phonematics, the one in this post is approximately "shoo sheu-shew-kuh sheu-men shully*-deh shoot-o-nuh ee shun". It means "Seven seasick sailors rinsed their shirts in the sea/lake".)

*consonant y, like the y in 'yellow'
