Re: Exercise routine - what's yours?

I agree with the nonnie above me about running. I started with a simple path around my parents' house, going back and forth in a big C (to work both sides evenly). I'd jog one C, walk two, jog one, etc, for half an hour. Over the months and years (and moving out of my parents' house), I now jog/walk for 45 minutes 5 times a week, 3 minutes jogging, 1 walking. I'll be bumping up the intensity again pretty soon. ^^

I went from never exercising to being rather fit. Lost 40 pounds in about a year and a half. I started jogging when I was 27 years old.

The trick is getting out there and doing it MORE than three times a week. I like to go after I wake up, and after morning tea (only tea) and before breakfast.

Also running on the street/around your property is free, though you have to deal with weather and potential threats like inattentive drivers and such. I've been nearly hit twice. I do have an exercise bike for when the weather is really nasty or I want to avoid people, but I prefer to be out on the pavement. Harder to give up when you're 2 miles from home!

One trick I used to keep me going was carrying a book with me. I'd read as I walked, and carry it when I ran. Anything to keep the energy level up!
