The first anime is a steaming pile of shit, but w/e if people just want to watch it. That being said, if you've just watched the dub, I'm not going to 'judge you', but I probably won't be interested in your fannish endeavors because if your perception of the characters comes from the dub holy shit it's going to be so different from mine.

I didn't really know there were people in fandom who only watched the anime though.

On the latter part, I don't really mind if people try watching the anime, don't like it, and decide they're not a fan of the series. It's no skin off my back. And yeah it's better than going to SA or encyclopedia dramatica or something.

I'm not in Hetalia fandom but I sure love the web material and I have only seen the dubs of the anime. I thought the dubs were fun. What's the big difference?

The dubs...went way more offensive with a lot of the jokes, and just was a really different take on the characters as a whole in a lot of ways.

+ 1

It's like Funimation dialed the offensiveness up to 11, and threw out what little characterization there was in the anime to pack in more jokes.

Effectively, they took everything the haters had been saying about the series and made it canon.

na

"More offensive" to you means "more funny" to others. What's offensive or not is about how you perceive things. I'd take America saying "I do what I want, biatch" anytime over America just randomly throwing in an Engrish word or China saying "aru" all the time, for example.

I like both the original and the dub. It's possible.

I'll admit, I only watched the anime for a long time [subbed though] because I just couldn't find any site that had the majority of strips translated and not over bandwidth. Hell, the site that does have them I always feel off when reading them, because they way they have the strips split means it's hard to tell if your reading them in order or not [which is borderline OCD for me so yeah. A problem of sorts.]
