I thought the point of the rape thing was not that it made Inara "worthy" of respect but that it forced Mal to come to terms with the fact that he'd been treating her badly and that he finally began giving her the respect he owed her all along. I don't like the idea of using rape like that but I don't think it's the way you interpret it exactly.

Rape: All that really matters is how it affects he males.

Fuck off and die.

Did the point make a whooshing sound when it flew over your head? I bet it made a whooshing sound when it flew over your head.

I'm pretty sure I heard it all the way over here.

How does interpreting it your way make it any better? Rape isn't a tool to use when you want to make one character "realize" something about another character. Ewww.

Don't you know that raping a fictional character is just like raping a real person?

We cannot take rape seriously as a culture until we completely purge it from fiction.

YEAH.

I MEAN, I DON'T REALLY CARE

BUT ANY REASON TO FORM AN ANGRY MOB IS OKAY WITH ME

Possibly but it was still framing a woman's rape around a man and his feelings. Which isn't how it should be done. Ever.

Then again, I think the storyline should've never existed in the first place and I thank FOX/the universe/whoever that the show got canceled before they could go there.

Or maybe y'all are just basing all your opinions on this non-episode based on one dude's description of it... said dude was not even the writer of said episode...

I mean it's a bit ridiculous. You can spin any story to sound horrible or great depending on what you want. The actual script could have been focusing entirely on INARA, and Mal's feelings about it were just secondary. But people go apeshit cause some dude was like "oh yeah i heard about this one thing they thought up..."
