Movies that made you cry

[identity profile] with-rainfall.livejournal.com 2013-04-26 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower has been the only one (yes, ever).

Re: Movies that made you cry

A big one in the past was "Titanic." Now it makes me laugh.

Re: Movies that made you cry

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
The Green Mile
Evita
A Walk to Remember
Premonition
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Time-Traveler's Wife
Titanic
Step Mom
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

... there are plenty of others, but none of them are coming to mind ATM.

Oh! The Croods made me cry. I went to see it in theater on Easter with my family and I was seriously just sitting there crying when none of the kids who were with us even shed a tear. So embarrassing.

Right there with you on that one.

Yep. I cry at the drop of a hat in movies--I think it's "emotional moment (of any kind) plus soundtrack" that does it. Oh, and I always cry when I see the same parts, no matter how many times I see the movie; no one-offs here. :)

I fall for that too fucking often. Even when I know the moment is ridiculous (badly written, acted) I still fall for it.

Oh, and I always cry when I see the same parts, no matter how many times I see the movie

Sadly enough, I'm usually with you. IDK how many times I've cried at various parts of LOTR. I hear the music and the dialogue and I start weeping. (Urg, I even cried during Lego LOTR. *head-desk*)

Oh, I'll just hang out here. Pass the tissues. *sniff*

(Particularly dire example - yesterday, my thoughts wandered over to parts of The Angels Take Manhattan. I had to bite the inside of my cheek so just the THOUGHT of it didn't make me cry.)

You have excellent timing (LOTR, man. My eyes are watering from thinking about it)!

So yup, I know that feel. :(

(Don't remind me of the jumping scene or the graveyard scene or the book scene or ANY OF THOSE SCENES! WHY ARE YOU REMINDING ME?! OH GOD!)

I feel like a lot of movies have been into TearJerkers lately because I've cried over a fair number of movies over the last year. First that comes to mind is Wreck-it Ralph. Argh I hate how I cried over the cheesy/cliche bits but that's just like me.

Re: Movies that made you cry

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
...I just realized that I have never ever cried at a movie. I got a little bit choked up in That Scene of Toy Story 3, and Dory when Marlin leaves in Finding Nemo, fuckin' Iron Giant and "Superman!" but I generally don't cry more than once or twice a year so I try to save it for things like being lost and penniless in a foreign country where no one speaks my language.

Me neither, anon! I shed a few tears at PoBaW, but I wasn't full-on bawling or anything. That's the most I've cried at a movie, believe it or not. I approve of your philosophy - all my tears come out when I'm full of rage and/or stress over totally pointless things >.>

Life is Beautiful did me in pretty hard. I saw it with my parents and we went out to dinner after and I couldn't even eat, I was so shaken up.

Kind of in the same vein, La lengua de las mariposas", which is about a school teacher and a little boy at the start of the Spanish Civil War, freakin' gutted me.

Neither are films I'd ever see again, they just lave me feeling too miserable.

We watched Life is Beautiful in a class of mine. Everyone else was like "ahh, really?" while my friend and I were just full-on weeping together. We were the only ones somehow! I thought it was ridiculously sad.

The Return of the King

From Up on Poppy Hill (because of the thing with Umi's father)

Adolescence of Utena (not sad, but moving)

The Land Before Time (when I was a kid and watched in the theater. I was terrified of T. rexes (reges?) for years afterwards.)

Re: Movies that made you cry

(Anonymous) 2013-04-27 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Black Beauty
The Return of the King
El Laberinto del Fauno

Those are the big tearjerkers from the top of my head. Many other movies have made me cry, but I can usually hold it back on rewatch.

A lot of them, more-so now than they used to. The most recent one (like, this afternoon) was All Dogs Go To Heaven. That was more from knowing what happened to Judith Barsi shortly after the movie was finished than the movie itself, but I won't pretend that the ending wasn't kind of a tearjerker on its own.

On a related note, yesterday I saw a clip of the ending of Marley & Me, and yeah, that's probably the very worst thing someone with an aging yellow Labrador can watch. Endless tears.

Mother Night, but in retrospect I think it was the arrangement of Arvo Pärt's Fratres and my life circumstances at the time that sent me right into hysterics. It's still one of those compositions I purposely keep to once-a-year because it's like freebasing beauty and melancholy.
