Like many others, I haven't seen enough of his work to be able to comment. From the looks of it, a lot of his progress was more of a "progressive within context" thing more than anything else, and still held within certain constraints of executive meddling. But then, I'm one of those "a small step forward is still a step forward" types.

But perhaps a bit more importantly - can we stop deriding each other for not being enough of a feminist, or the wrong kind of feminist, or simply "not a feminist" because the progression of women's rights in their life means something very different from the progression of women's rights in yours?

Not every shit thing Whedon did was because of "executive meddling". I know that's what he liked to pull out when no one responded to the story the way he wanted them to, that or the actor "acted it wrong". But you know, sometimes Whedon did shit things. He had one or two really good ideas, the rest of his storylines were regurgitations of them.
