So what you're saying is that if someone isn't aware of this obscure bit of trivia (this gang rape thing OP described isn't canon, it never happened, it was just one version of one theory to explain a prop, with another character's emotional reaction to this possible turn of events extrapolated theoretically as well . . . ) from a single short-lived tv show and/or doesn't share your opinion of said trivia exactly, then you'll never respect or trust anything they say in the future. I'm not sure how you even successfully interact with the world if you can't trust statements from 98.7% of the population of Earth.

That is by far and away NOT the only problem with Whedon's writing and if you think it is you are kidding yourself and need to do some research.
