I completely understand that. I found some songs I really like just from watching AMVs

I've gotten into so many bands and bought so many CDs I otherwise never would've heard of/given a chance were it not for AMVs. It's a remarkably safe, approachable way to discover new music, in my opinion.

I had actually heard of Hurts before by their song Illuminated but it wasn't until I watched the AMV "Our Tapes" and heard their song "Devotion" that I really fell in love with them.

Someone else already linked the Princess Tutu AMV with Nanne's "Håll om mig" above. That one hooked me with both the song and the anime, I had not seen it when someone sent me the AMV for general awesomeness.

Gary Numan "Down in the Park" from a Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita AMV back in the 90s, introduced me to Gary Numan and Gunnm

And I already knew about Van Halen but I really liked this one Kimagure Orange Road AMV set to "Dance the Night Away" and I WISH I COULD FIND IT AGAIN

I don't see the problem at all. I discovered several bands/artists and anime thanks to AMVs. It never even occurred to me that there might be a problem with that.

I think this is a great way to find new things. An amv about a show/pairing you follow can get you to listen to music you normally wouldn't, or things you just typically wouldn't come across. I've done this lots. About half my music collection I've bought based on AMVs where I liked the song and then looked up the artist.

The clips used from anime are usually the most interesting ones, so I think it's actually a really good way to catch new people's interest. I became interested in several anime (and other media) after watching some good videos.
