Character A is happily married in canon, so in order to facilitate a relationship between A and Character B, A's wife goes completely OOC off the rails. That's such a lazy way to get around the adultery issue that I stop reading the fic altogether on the assumption that the rest of it is just as badly plotted.

No this has nothing to do with the pairing in my icon why do you ask. *cough*

Change "happily married" to "in any sort of relationship," and this is what makes me hit the back button.

I'm sorry, did you just make this sweet and awesome character a raging bitch just so Dude could have a "reason" to dump her and hook up with Other Dude? That's Not Cool™.

Totally. Sometimes the author decided to make the wife/girlfriend or husband/boyfriend to be abusive without any canon reference that they are abusive at all just to separate them and make the pairing they are writting about possible.
