Lack of follow-thru aside, I have a really hard time believing a 200,000 word fic is any good if they've had as many "gonna have sex except OH WAIT EMERGENCY NEVERMIND" happenings as you claim. Those sorts of things are good once, or very rarely twice, a story.

Any more than that, and I'm sorry, it's not a well-crafted story. :/

True. But then again, fandom can be blind to what constitutes a good fic. I find that if it's long, dramatic, angsty, and features the fandom's favourite ship, it's already in the way of getting popular. I've read quite a few highly-praised fic which were in the 100k-200k region where so much drama was happening, it actually ruined the build-up and everything. But that's fandom for you. /shrug

I've seen people complaining about the same stuff as the OP did and they're usually talking about long plotty get-together fics (where the romance is sorta like an afterthought what with the zombie apocalypse/end of the world/ serial killers involved). It's not that kind of a fic people!
