"I would not romance him" gets You racist hateful fuck!"
and
"I would romance him" gets You fetishizing hateful fuck!"

And in neither scenario do these people know you. They just judge you based on a five second window.

I'm so glad that SJW is now being recognized as a meme. At least that way when someone gets yelled at for making an innocent mistake, they'll be a little less likely to think "this person represents the entire cause". That's what really gets me about SJW's- how they turn people off to the actual root cause, which is supposed to be "let's just be nice and respectful of other human beings". 'Course SJW's aren't interested in actual change. They just like to bully people so they don't have to think about the fact that sitting on the computer and telling Suzy Q what an ableist fatphobic swear word she is will not ever do anything to advance their cause.

(Open question, though- do the yelling-and-name-calling-on-the-internet people realize that they have not and will not ever make a difference? What happens when you point this out to them? Do they just explode, or do they have something to say? I can't imagine; it almost seems like it'd be kinda cruel to point that out to them...)

Social Justice Warriors. Not to be confused with Social Justice Activists.

A Social Justice Warrior's argument sounds like this- "you're a bad person and you better agree with me that you should die" while an Activist's argument is more along the lines of "You messed up, and I'm gonna assume it was a mistake/you didn't know any better/you worded that poorly. Also, because I'm pretty sure you're a good person who wants to be good, I'm going to let you know you what you should say/do instead because we'll be sharing the planet anyway, why not try to get along?"

SJW's are not interested in making the world a better place. SJW's are the hypocrites. Those who have fallen victim to the hate they're fighting. Those who feel so helpless that they overcompensate by picking an easy non-target and pummeling it. Those who are afraid of actual bigots so they go anon, get on their soap boxes, and say all the things they would say to an actual bigot to a person much less threatening. People who would rather make someone feel bad than have them change their behavior, learn, grow, and become a better person. Those who have long since forgotten that the goal of Social Justice is "Everyone is Equal and gets along" and who have taken up the new banner of "win one for my ego".

Like (I imagine) the hate poisoned person who commented below. I think. Not sure; stopped reading at "The SJW backlash is more of an excuse for people like you--!" It's hilarious because they're picturing me as some White Blonde Haired Blue Eyed Cis Upper-Middle Class Male, which they love to villify. But that person's not interested in the truth. They just need NPC's in their game of Sim Save The World, the only setting in which getting everyone on SF_Drama to tweet "DIE CIS SCUM!" will help people.

They're frustrating and damaging to the cause, but my friend told me "you can't save those people; you have to just let them burn themselves out".

The SJW backlash is more of an excuse for people like you to sink back into your asshole racist opinions and refuse to even examine your behavior because a couple out of a hundred are overzealous people who miss the point.

I cannot believe how much shit I have to read every day on this site about how terrible SJW are and on tumblr and everywhere when really it's the backlash (that started IMMEDIATELY after the term social justice appeared) that have been the loudest voices. But continue patting yourself on your backs and acting like you've been victimized.

I don't have a problem with social justice debate or whatever. The problem as I see it is tumblr seems to promote reblogging social justice issues for fashion. Or it gets linked into shipping (like the Sterek fans - who seem to think liking and promoting ONE m/m ship means ~social justice~).

And it's not social justice that is the problem it is ~social justice~ - when people pick one sliver of an issue and ignore the rest of it. And sure, people do that with their pet projects all the time, but fandom can be so idiotic when it comes to their ships, campaigns and inability to accept criticism (even when it is justified).

"because a couple out of a hundred are overzealous people who miss the point"

Hence, the saying that a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

Also, I note that a lot of people make a distinction between actual social justice and Social Justice Warriors (SJW). The SJW being the bad apple that's spoiling for a SJ fight in every posting everywhere online.

Oh no, you have to read shit about how SJWs are jerks! That is so terrible.

Why aren't you upset about the MRA fuckers, or the actual racists, or the actual homophobes, or the actual rape apologists? Why aren't you going after them? Why are you here, getting upset because someone said that SJWs don't help the cause? Do you really think that someone saying, "you can't ever dislike a PoC" or "fuck you, I'm not telling you why what you just said is offensive" is helpful? Those are the sorts of people harp is talking about, and those are the sorts of people that you just defended because you can't separate SJWs from actual social justice activists.

There was a woman in my area who wrote a letter to the president of our flagship public university asking her to change the school's athletic culture, because a number of male athletes have recently been hit with domestic abuse charges. Male sports fans responded by sending her rape threats. That is a problem. That is something worth getting upset about. It's fucking bullshit, and it illustrates the fact that there damn well fucking is a rape culture. But the sort of people you're defending don't actually give a shit about that. They give a shit about making themselves look good on the internet. They're like you, in that they get more offended by someone criticizing them than by the actual god awful shit that's happening around them. Please, tell me why they should be lauded. Tell me why you should be lauded. You haven't done a damn thing for anyone.

If someone expresses disapproval of a bunch of hysterical* Sociology 101 students screaming at someone and dogpiling them, it means they approve of MRA and rape culture? Guess what? They're not mutually exclusive. Some of us have the intellectual capacity to dislike both on various levels. I'm really sorry that you don't.

Why do people always whip out the "WHY AREN'T YOU UPSET ABOUT THIS MUCH WORSE THING!?!?" act when someone doesn't like something they do like? You know you've "lost" when you get to that point.

* Yes, that was meant to yank your chain.

Why do people always whip out the "WHY AREN'T YOU UPSET ABOUT THIS MUCH WORSE THING!?!?" act when someone doesn't like something they do like? You know you've "lost" when you get to that point. well because one of the problems with SJW, one of the maddening frustrating things, is that people get dog-piled for for using words like 'lame' which is an unnecessary would to use, and given it's history there are better ones, but SJW don't seem to spend much time going after the really problematic ares of the internet.

I don't see SJW fighting the good fight in the comments on you tube videos, but I see them accusing some teen wolf fangirl of being racist because they refer to Scott as 'a potato' and he's a Latino character. Why do SJW spend so much time pissing in the cornflakes of people essentially on their side and being so arrogant about the way the 'correct' people's behaviour?

Yikes, my bad!

SA as above.

I just reread this post and realized that it was aimed at the SJWs, not the anti-SJWs. I thought you were saying that people who complain about SJW behavior didn't care about rape culture and MRAs. I apologize for misreading your post and responding the way I did.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Because it's so difficult to be upset at all of that??
I can be pissed off at the racism, sexism, and homophobia in fandom as well as a woman getting rape threats, MRAs, and other issues.
