I've done this multiple times, and every time except one I just sort of ... went. Saved up a bit of money (enough to get you through a month or two of job hunting), find a place to live (this is easier if you know someone who already lives in the area, but not impossible even if you don't), and went.

Also, people will tell you that you can't run away from yourself bla bla bla, and that is partially true, but sometimes it is your environment that's getting you down and in that case getting out does in fact make you better. I don't know your situation, but it has worked that way for me.

I know this is vague, but I don't want to write you an essay, but if you have any specific questions, ask and I'll try to answer them. :)
