Re: Sexuality Question Time!

I would love to have the kind of life that's so perfect that I have the time it takes to dream up new and meaningless ways to label people and sexuality.

I'm sorry that your life is hard <3

I'm just at a point in my life where I'm gradually coming out of the closet and the queer community where I live is so tiny that I don't want to piss anyone off by acting wrong. I don't understand why the rules aren't just "be who you are and screw anyone who thinks otherwise" and "be nice to other people" but they're not at least on the Internet and I'm scared that if I do it wrong i won't be good enough or accepted by my peers.

I just want it to be straightforward but I guess it's not? I only even label myself because it became easier than saying "it's complicated" but then people decided easy wasn't good enough.

AYRT

My contempt is for the people who run those blogs and try to define and pigeonhole everyone. I just think it's ridiculous that that is how they spend their time.

I'm sorry that you feel like you have to act a certain way to be accepted in the queer community where you live. And I'm especially sorry that you haven't found any place online yet with people who are just happy for people to be themselves. I wish I could recommend a place for you but my online activity is centered on fandom and I came out so long ago that my sexuality is just one of the many things that combine to make me Me. I hope the same is true for you someday, preferably sooner than later.

It's kind of late with the current post but maybe you could ask F!S if they know of places online that are more about acceptance than label debates. (I don't mean to be flippant; I'm tired and cannot think of any other way to refer to the blogs you mentioned. They sound like intolerant places to me and when I'm this tired I just can't be as gentle about that stuff as I normally would be. If they need you to be a certain way or have to interact with them within a strict set of guidelines or else you're doing it wrong and aren't good enough, then they are intolerant. Period.)

I don't think life is straightforward. And I think labels are actually one of the ways some people come to terms with issues like sexuality and gender identity, amongst others. It's been my experience, though, that the people who are hung up on labels are exactly that: hung up.

You are who are. And from this comment and your original post, you sound like a good person to me. You have good intentions and are sensitive towards others. Those are fantastic qualities and it's my wish for you that you find peers who you can connect with and talk to about the issues relevant to your life. They do exist, I just don't think they're people you've mentioned.

I wish you the best of luck and much happiness in your life <3
