Re: fic pet peeves
- And in slash, 'the smaller man/male' and 'the taller man/male' because it always makes me think of seme/uke stereotypes, which I also hate.
- again, seme/uke stereotypes. Especially when people insist you order character names in a certain way depending on who 'tops'.
- the words 'male' and 'female', 'male' mostly though. It just makes me cringe.
- constant descriptions of hair and eye colour. I GET IT ALREADY. HE HAS GREEN EYES.
- romanticised rape, rape jokes and words like 'retard'
- a lot of SPaG errors. I can take some, but sometimes it just gets ridiculous.
- MPREG
- Omegaverse
- the word 'chuckled' - another cringey one. I blame the Chuckle Brothers. I always hated them.
- when someone is annoyed at someone else and they use their full name and this somehow conveys their annoyance. This isn't a big peeve, but it just strikes me as so cliché.
- authors notes interrupting the story
- "I'm not homophobic, but NO YAOI/YURI NO NO NO. I like het. And again, because nothing I just wrote would have conveyed this to you, no yaoi/yuri." / "I'm not homophobic, but I don't like slash for canons that don't have slash in them. This character has never had a relationship in canon, their sexuality has never even been discussed, why are some people putting them with someone of the same gender?"
- in Naruto, when they learn Elemental Manipulation at a really young age. No, it's made VERY CLEAR in the series that this is a Chuunin-level skill and that there are plenty of other things they could be learning before that. Sometimes an AU will twist it enough that I'll believe it, but I've seen fics that are like, "Hi, I'm your new sensei, you are going to be a spying team with an emphasis on sneakiness, assassination, all that subtle jazz. Now, on your first ever day as ninja, let's learn Elemental Manipulation, and then I'll give you lots of flashy jutsu. It'll take you a few chapters, as in a few days or weeks if the author wants drama, even though it is supposed to take years for everyone who can't use the clone method. Not that we're supposed to know what that is yet."
- 'Sasuke-teme'. I can't remember Naruto ever saying that. -_-
And probably many more. ^_^
