Re: Sexuality Question Time!

What the fuck is there not to get? It's simple. For example, I'm a man. The end. WOW SO ~CONFUSING~

A man with a body associated with women. You're right, I have no idea what's confusing about this.

Fine, you want me to put it another way? Gender is based in the brain, not the body. For whatever reason, I ended up with a male mind*, even though most people with my sort of body end up with female minds*. It happens.

Basically, a person's gender is not dependent on what sort of body they have. Once you accept that, it's simple (and I feel like you kind of have to accept that if you're going to be accepting of trans people. Not that you have to accept trans people, but if you do, then...)

*sorry, can't think of a better wat to put it right now

I speak for myself (though I'm sure many other people share this view), but gender =/= mind. Or, at the very least I have a hard time understanding that. For the majority of the population, it's our physical make-up that defines our gender.

You can't take a handful of trans* people and suddenly try to refute this. Or you could, but like I said, many people aren't going to buy it.

I really don't think it can be denied that in the case of gender identity, trans* people are anomalies.

Listen, I have no problem respecting what a trans* person chooses to identify as, but considering I'm not a trans* person, this will never make sense to me. And hey, that's okay! It's none of my business anyway.

See, but I'm not "choosing" to identify as a man. I am a man. I couldn't choose to be a woman any more than you could choose to be a gender you're not.

And I feel like the very fact that trans people exist (and there are many more than a "handful" of us) proves that it's not our bodies that define our gender. But maybe it's just because I'm trans that I really can't understand seeing your body as being completely vital to your gender identity. Like... if you suddenly woke up with a different body, but still had exactly the same mind, do you really think that would suddenly make you a different gender? idgi

If you think this is something I'm "choosing", and think that our bodies define our gender, then you're not really respecting me as a trans person. Because if you think that, I feel like you're just humoring me when what you actually think is that I'm wrong about my own gender. And I am sick of people who think they know better than I do what my gender is.

DA - I wish more people had this attitude. I hate "trans*" because it's counterproductive to the identity.
