So? I've seen homestuckcosplayhelp borrow ideas from other fandoms. I don't think anyone who posts their craft tutorials online for free would be mad that someone was inspired to do something differently with their idea.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see why it's a problem. I love getting ideas from the internet, and when I posted the one fannish tutorial I did, I did it because it made me happy and might make someone else happy to see how I did it. If they get non-Doctor Who ideas from it, cool. Fandom and crafting should be inclusive and fun!

Yeah, I don't see a prooblem with it either? Though I'm not sure why you want to make troll horns if you're not interested in Homestuck...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, they could be using the tutorials to make, like, demon horns or something. Or they just think the candy-corn horns look cool (which they kinda do, I thought they looked neat before I really even knew what Homestuck was).

OP

I won't be painting them like troll horns. They're for more conventional fantasy creatures (demons, satyrs, etc.)

Nothing wrong with exploiting a resource. Like... if you ever want to built a good full-head mask, furry forums are totally the place to go. Thanks to them I figured out how to make a fantastic Silent Hill bubble-head nurse mask.

Why exactly are you making horns then?

The only thing you could really use them for is homestuck cosplay.

Wouldn't that result in a bunch of people approaching you about something you apparently have no interest in?

I'm just confused, unless you really like the visual (and only visual) aspect of some character or another...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it obvious? They're making giant fake candy corn.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-28 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, candy corn...

Before reading HS I was pretty averse to it, but I still had a fantroll, just because the general design of trolls was pretty cool. I guess this applies to this secret?

Liking a troll and cosplaying them is different though. Nobody is going to approach you with mistaken assumptions based on the fantroll in your head.

Demons and fauns have horns, too.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-04-29 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I won't be painting them troll-colors; they're for other costuming purposes.

Oh okay then. That makes far more sense.

There's nothing to feel guilty about, OP.

It's all arts and crafts in the end, and I have a feeling that the people writing those tutorials would probably tickled to find that they're helpful to people outside of the niche.

I mean, that's what they're there for: to help and teach :D

No Flocking Mod Podge. That stuff is great for flocking or reflocking ponies and not just G1s you can make so soft versions of Flutteryshy and Rarity and all the others.

I misuse all sorts of crafting/building tutorials, it's actually a pretty useful way of finding new ways to do things by looking at tutorials for other hobbies or unrelated subjects

I really doubt the people who made those tutorials mind
