I have a fairly big family, and so my childhood was spent drowning in stuffed animals. This is fine and all, but I'm not sure what to do with them now that I'm an adult. :( It feels wrong to just throw them away and I certainly can't keep them, since next year I'm moving across the country.

Well, F!S? What do you do with your old toys?

Donate them. There are plenty of places that will take stuffed animals.

Give them to charities! They'll give them or sell them at a low price to families in need.

Give them away. I have plenty of relatives with young children, and my mother and I work at a school. As a matter of fact, nearly all of the toys at our preschool are my and my brothers' old toys.

my brother and sister-in-law are cops and I gave all my old toys to them-- they keep them on the dashboards of their police cars and give them to kids on the street or who they meet on DV calls and stuff.

So if you know a cop you could do that, or donate them to the police station.

I had an enormous collection of stuffed rabbits as a kid, and now I have an above average collection of stuffed rabbits (seeing as most adults don't own many stuffed rabbits at all.) A lot of them I threw away, though, and I still feel terrible about it. I like to believe they escaped being thrown in the garbage truck and made it to the daycare at the end of Toy Story 3.

Maybe you can donate them to a children's hospital?

You local Child Protective Services office is probably in need of any kind of toys, go ask them and you can give a child some comfort during what is one of the most difficult and traumatizing times of a Foster Child life.

Goodwill takes them. I think that's where most of my super old toys went. (I still have a lot of stuffed animals sitting around in a closet though. I'm weak.)

Given the rest of this thread, it looks like you have a lot of options. :)

Donate them! That way they'll still be loved, but you can get your space.

I donated mine to the local fire department. They give them to children they meet while doing their job to help comfort them.

1. Give them to younger family members.
2. Yard sale
3. Take to a Goodwill or Salvation Army
4. Give to a charity
5. Give to a police or fire department (they use them to sooth kids who end up having to go there for a couple hours while they wait for someone to get them because their parents are abusive/absent/in-jail or their house burnt down)
6. Give to a hospital (sick kids benefit from stuffed animals as much as one at pd's and fire halls)

I...kept mine. /shame face

But donating them is an awesome idea, particularly if you donated them to groups that could really use them [CPS, the police] that most people wouldn't think of as needing toys.
