PLAYOFFS PLAYOFFS PLAYOFFS

I want to know who everyone's favourite team is and/or who they'll be rooting for this spring. And who do want to see swept in the first round?

I love Calgary, but since we suck and we're out I'm rooting for (ugh) Pittsburgh because... Um.... Iginla. I have no real predictions, but would love to see Vancouver make a hasty exit.

You must be a Canadian from Calgary. I'm rooting for the Leafs and I'm excited because this is the first time we made the playoffs since the lockout!

Nah seriously, I did grow up in Calgary, but I live in Vancouver now. Which is where some of my Canucks dislike comes from... I've never been a fan of the Leafs, but I'm happy for them! I know that whenever we make the playoffs again some 5-6 years from now I'll be feeling the same way. XD Enjoy it!

WELL I (or Flames fans) CAN ALWAYS DREAM!

I rooted for the Canucks and the Flames when they made the playoffs. It helps you are in the Western Conference so rooting for you guys doesn't hurt the Leafs' chances. Unless we meet in the finals which, well, hasn't happened yet haha.

Yeah, I've rooted for Montreal and Ottawa in the playoffs, but somehow the East always disappoints me. XD Too bad the Jets didnt make it in. I'd have loved to see a Canadian clusterfuck. Even if its not in the finals.

I'm not a huge fan of hockey. However, I'm going to be rooting for the Sharks, mostly because my dad is a really big Sharks fan, and it'd be nice for him if they did well. They probably won't though because they're the Sharks! Failing in the playoffs is kind of what they do. But here's hoping.

Haha - to be honest, each year I think 'oh San Jose might make it far this year!' and each year I'm wrong. In the first round they're going up against Vancouver, so they have my full support. :D

Vancouver will make the playoffs every year and always leave in the second or third round just so another Canadian team with the appropriate genitals and/or bodily organs to take the Cup doesn't make the cut.

Or maybe even the first round! ;)

Nah, second or third, depending on the goaltending. It's what we like to do! Get your hopes up for an all-Canadian final as one of the Eastern teams tends to really turn it on during the post-season, then dash all of those hopes miserably.

They better hope both goalies are up to snuff because last night..... lol. I know I know, it was a meaningless game, but ouch.

In all honesty though Vancouver is so bad at scoring that once a team gets up by two point the forwards just give up, the defense collapses, and everyone somehow hopes our amazing has been goaltending will win the day.

One of the reasons the Leafs didn't do well the last couple of seasons was because we didn't have any decent goaltenders. Belfour was way too old ffs why did you even sign him on? I have feelings about this!

Sorry to hijack the thread. I can't help but have a naggy feeling that there aren't any all-Canadian finals because it won't be as good for the American marketing companies.

Oh man, as a Canucks fan I know all your feels about bad goaltending. Luongo was once great, but now he's decent, and while a decent goalie is nothing to sneeze at, he's still getting paid like a great goalie.

Oh ho! A ratings conspiracy theorist. My dad is also one of you. He's also been right every time (i.e. there hasn't been an all-Canadian final, even when it really looked like there was going to be). But is that because Canadian teams are so outnumbered and it's statistically unlikely to happen, or because Americans really wouldn't watch it?

Would they watch it if Vancouver promised to riot again?

I know! Leafs had a tendency to sign aging players and goalies and pay them as like they were still at the top of their game. Wtf right? Use the money to sign some prospects instead and develop them. Aging players will only get worse as time passes. They're not good investments!

There were only three all-Canadian NHL finals in the last 50 years - 67, 86 and 89. Maybe it's because the Canadian teams sucked, maybe it's because Americans wouldn't watch it. Who knows? coughCONSPIRACYcough

OP here. I go through phases with hockey. I was a pretty hardcore Leafs fan for a while, then a couple years ago when the Canucks got close, I was Canucks-crazy (note I've lived in both provinces, so feel entitled to root for whichever of those three teams makes it to the playoffs), but then the violence really got to me, and I think it got to the team too.

So I'm rooting for the Leafs in these playoffs. THIS IS OUR YEAR BABY

Root for whoever you damn well feel like. I always roll my eyes at people who look at others and go 'since when did YOU become a Canucks/Penguins/whatever fan?'

Aw, do you mean the riots? :( I felt bad for the Canucks and the city when it happened. Now we're always the butt of riot jokes. LA riots when they WIN (Lakers in 2011 and I was holed up in my hotel watching it all), how come no one makes fun of them? lol
