I'm curious how you were made a better person by these things.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Haha maybe I should have elaborated. I think the fandom made me more open-minded, and it made me get down from my high-horse of thinking cosplayers were attention whores and teenagers were whiny bitches. I didn't grow up in the US, so some aspects of it were foreign to me. But in the end we all went through some of the same things, we just had different means to express it.

As for the comic, it made me value people more, in general. I can't explain it very well, but I'm more open to people I would have found weird or too different now, and I've made some great friends because of this.

Maybe I was just a shitty person before, but at least I'm not so shitty anymore! I think!

Awww, my theory below was shot.

Well, know this fandom is actually quite large and loves/hates you as is your sexual preference.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
if everyone hates it why are there six million references to it here in FS?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
That's WHY it is hated.
It's fans are super obsessive and spread that shit everywhere.

It's annoying.

I'm used to seeing it all over, but thanks to the overexposure I have zero desire to give it a chance. At all. As far as I'm concerned it's the cancer of the internet.

No, but I'm really happy for these people. Any reason to keep living is a great reason.

But wait, 'general'?

Re: H3Y. H3Y 4NON

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
'general' as in the ongoing threads titled 'homestuck general' on /co/. think of it like general comments, except the theme is homestuck, and that way there aren't a million different homestuck threads or anons invading every other thread to talk about homestuck.

you can have other generals too, like gravity falls general, maybe an occasional marvel/dc/image/publisher general, and.... that's mostly about it actually. most generals get frowned on by the rest of the board.

Re: H3Y. H3Y 4NON

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh. They seem like a great idea, why do they get frowned upon?

Re: H3Y. H3Y 4NON

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
They have a tendency to turn into circle jerking cesspools.

Re: H3Y. H3Y 4NON

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Because 4chan generally doesn't like things :b

And also because while they're nice as a regular place to talk about a subject, they do tend to devolve into poop the more active they become if the show or comic is popular enough to have several threads a day. At that point, people aren't just talking about the subject, and just spamming silliness (Dipper's cheeks, metastuck, periodstuck, roleplaying, enthusiasm). It's kind of like how someone can be a fan of Sherlock, but hate the fandom (or a specific place for it *cough*tumblr*cough*).

It's more about the idea of "culture" a board wants to maintain because of elitism imo.

Some folks don't like even one thread of homestuck around. It bumps enough that it's usually visible on the front page most of it's life.

As anon above said, they can turn into cesspools sometimes (hiatus can be an... interesting time to go) but you can also have some fun. Just accept there will be... stuff like this (and it's awesome)

I did something similar with Harry Potter when I was sixteen. I'd convinced myself that if my family really loved me they'd be happy I wasn't miserable anymore, so thinking of them missing me didn't help much. Even a silly reason to live is better than no reason.

Kismesissitude as a concept helped me out; it helped me come to terms with the fact that someone might not be a fundamentally bad person but still piss me off and that's just how people work ^_^

I wish it did that for more people instead of fully absorbing them and making them expect all their friends to worship Homestuck or basically abandoning them for people who do, because that's the story I've experienced and most of the stories I've heard.
