~Female decency~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I just got yelled at by my mother because I'm wearing one of my few tank tops, because you can see my bra through it.

It's 95 degrees in this house, and she refuses to turn the air on. But it's apparently indecent! And unladylike! And rude! To show my bra.

Don't wear a bra and see how she feels about that. I bet she'll prefer being able to see your bra through your shirt.

da

My parents always knock and open my door immediately after even if it is closed. I've lost count of the number of times they saw me naked and half-naked.

My partner's mom does this to us. Except instead of a room, we're actually in an entirely different apartment, in an entirely different city. She just randomly drops by, unannounced, and will hear, "come in," no matter what we say to the contrary. It's...aggravating. Luckily I'm not often without clothes, but my partner is.

At least now we're in a place where we're more likely to lock the door even when we're home >_< I'm just gonna count the number of visits until she asks for a copy of the apartment key. (And I'm gonna tell her we can't make copies for people who aren't tenants. SO THERE.)

I feel you nonny. Helicoptor parents are the worst.

Let them catch you masturbating.

They'll never do it again.

If you're inside it's your business. She's changed your diapers. Seeing your bra isn't going to shock her. I'm pretty sure she wears a bra too? If I were you I would be walking around shirtless without a bra so I think your mom can suck it up.

Even if you're outside it's still your bra. Bras don't kill people, angry women who had to pay top dollar for an ill-fitted bra do. Or maybe that's just me?

SA

Realized when I said "...isn't going to shock her." I sound like I think no mom can be like that. Oops. I meant that it shouldn't shock her.

What's the problem? She's female and never seen a bra before? On a another female person? Who cares (well, as long as you're not going to work like that--your employer will)? I don't know how old you are, but it's inside your house for Pete's sake, not outside. If she cares so much, she can turn the air on.

I used to argue w/my Mom about my bra straps showing. I just kept telling her that if people had never seen bra straps before they had bigger problems than seeing my bra straps. I mean, I'm narrow shoulders, big boobed, and the damn straps constantly fall down/slide down on my shoulders. I can't stop it. I've tried. I'm constantly yanking them back up. I stopped caring about this even before it got so popular to show them off/let them show.

Have you tried the bras with the little clasp on the bands? They're designed to go under tank-tops and racer-back sort of shirts, but they may also keep your straps from falling down your shoulders.

If you have tried them, ignore me :P It's been quite a few years since I've worn a proper bra, so I'm not really much use in this sort of conversation.

Re: ~Female decency~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I like them and wear them when I can get away w/it, which is rare (can't pretend it snuck out of place and my bras aren't pretty at all; they're just plain white and brownish). The straps stay up, but the straps show b/c of the style of clothes I wear (can't stand a neckline tight/close around my neck. I'm told a properly fitted bra will solve the issue--not sure I believe it, but I'm going to try it next time I go bra shopping). Bra fittings. Lol. They're just so expensive!

I'm thinking of trying those bra strap holder upper things http://cacique.lanebryant.com/clear-bra-strap-holder/p31394/index.pro you've seen on tv--I don't know though. I want a little more give than I've seen in pics. I'm thinking of trying to make one myself w/some Velcro. IDK.

op

IDK... My family is really weird about bras. At one end, they think it's completely indecent to not wear one. I am the only person in my family who doesn't wear a bra to sleep. But then my mom hates when I buy bright colored ones, and she gets really angry when she sees them. Most of the time I just cover up anyway because it's not worth the screaming, but it's really fucking hot, what does she expect?!

I kind of feel like they think boobs are indecent by themselves? Maybe that's the cause, and anything that draws attention to them is improper. It's really weird because my family is not religious, nor conservative. I think they just kind of hate women. :/

I used to wear bras to sleep in when I was in college and had roommates.

That changed when one night, the underwire broke in the bra and stabbed me in the boob and actually punctured the skin. D:

Oh wow that's like the exact opposite of my mom. She hardly ever wears bras in public when she leaves the house

Re: ~Female decency~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
if you live with her for free, she has the right to tell you what you can and can't wear. if you don't like, move out.

Re: ~Female decency~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
lolyep so because she birthed me, and I can't afford to live on my own because she refused to pay for my college, she has complete say over my life. That's healthy.

Re: ~Female decency~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
she refused to pay for my college

Are you for serious right now? refused to pay...wtf, you're parents are under no obligation to pay for your college. College is your decision and your responsibility because hey, you're an adult now! If you're parents choose to pay for college it is a bonus, a blessing, something not to be taken for granted.

Sounds like you need to do some serious growing up.

Hey, dickweed. I did everything I fucking could to save my school reputation to try to get a scholarship, after she continuously moved me, multiple times a year to different schools(ending at a total of 27 schools!), not giving a single shit about anything but herself, not feeding us, not clothing us, not giving one shit if we had no idea what was going in school. Due to moving around so much I have absolutely no support system, no friends, no references, nothing. She never taught me how to network or socialize. I am trying to teach myself but there is little to do with no diploma and 0 job references.
When she married my rich stepdad, and came into a 200k inheritance from her grand uncle, she did NOTHING for us. She went on a trip to Europe and left us behind. Bought a bunch of motorcycles and a fucking boat. And because she had so much fucking money when I turned 18 and was trying to enter college, I didn't qualify for financial aid. She refused to help out even though she has more than enough.

But perhaps because you were privileged with parents who actually give a shit about you, you don't know how fucking hard it can be to succeed in this world. So sorry that my job in food service doesn't pay for than $700 a month in a city that costs $1000 for a fucking 1BD apartment in the shittiest parts of town. I guess I just need to grow up.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-01 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I don't give a shit what your circumstances are your parents are under no obligation to pay for your college.

It's awesome that you assume I come from a privileged background when you know absolutely nothing about me except for the fact that I don't think parents are obligated to pay for college. Super awesome of you with those assumptions. Which, if you care, are completely wrong.

Yeah, you definitely need to grow up. This type of reply just proves that.

I have one you pathetic fuckwad. So sorry that I am low class citizen who doesn't make enough to afford rent anywhere and my state has cut every bit of funding for programs for poor people unless they have multiple children to support.

Jesus. They obviously never experienced physical or emotional abuse from their parents.
