I cannot write a complete story from beginning to end without getting some kind of feedback.

Seriously? We all like to be read, sure, but unable to even *complete* a story? I find that mind-boggling. I mean, my beta reader doesn't even see it until it's finished in the first draft.

*awaits storm of foul-mouthed accusation, but...really*

tbf, I am the same - for me the actual writing of the story is the hard part, I struggle with actually getting the ideas and pictures in my head to become tangible words and sentences and I find that I´m not motivated to go to the effort of putting the whole thing down on paper (well, screen) if I can just as easily let it play out in my head. That´s not to say I don´t want to write it, I just struggle with the process, especially if I have no motivation to continue.

If I write something and I know that other people are enjoying it, then I will more likely go to the effort of getting it out there and actually physically writing it out. So, like the OP, for me, getting some sort of feedback lets me know to keep going and the effort is worth it.

Obviously, not everyone has the same writing processes but wanting some indication that continuing with publishing the story is the motivation some of us need to keep publishing.

AYRT. Yeah, very different from my own process. I enjoy getting the plot, characterisation and dialogue just the way *I* want them before letting anyone else (i.e. my beta) have a look-see. Once it led to a major re-write (and my beta was absolutely right to suggest it) but usually it's just fne tuning.

OTOH I almost never publish WsIP. I usually wait to finish (and post-beta polish) the story before posting.
