There's also the issue that Jon was the result of an affair, not a previous relationship, and that Catelyn was forced to have the boy raised in her own household. In the modern world, pretty much NOBODY would be okay with her husband bringing home another woman's child and being forced to raise it alongside her own children. Thankfully in most places you can just walk away from the relationship, but Cat can't do that. This is Westeros.

I think there are people who would be able to do that.

However most people would realise that they're being a total cunt if they wish the child brought home was almost dead instead of their own.

That and Jon was not actually the result of an affair.

Does Catelyn know that? No? Then that's not actually relevant to her response.

And Jon actually being the result of an affair wouldn't make that wish any better, jeez.

Catelyn doesn't just wish Jon dead the moment she sets eyes on him.

She says something awful that she shouldn't have said ina moment of weakness.

No, actually, most people are not rational at all when they're put in a really horrific situation like their son nearly dying and becoming crippled for life.

That and Jon was not actually the result of an affair.

Well that's a pretty fucking stupid point to bring up since a) it's a theory, not actually canon as of right now and b) CATELYN IS NOT AWARE OF THIS.

Especially when they blame themselves because they prayed that they would get to keep their son at home, and their wish was granted in a way that's worthy of the monkey's paw.

Yeah, like. Idk. In the modern world, Catelyn would be able to walk away from her marriage. But Cat can't do that.

Ned just comes home and is like "hey this is my bastard. He's going to live in our home now. Deal with it. Bye."
