Guam Micronesian Kingfisher
- The Latin name of the Guam Micronesian Kingfisher is T. c. cinnamominus.
- The Guam Kingfisher is considered extinct in it's natural habitat, thanks to the introduction of the brown tree snake. However, there are still some in captivity, and a breeding program is currently in place, with hopes to reintroduce them into the wild.
- As of 2004, there were only 65 birds in the captive population

(Anonymous) 2013-04-30 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)Also, the other day during a review session for a lab final, I thought of you when I came across a beautiful carabid beetle from the instructor's collection--it was iridescent greenish-bronze, covered all over with peacock-eye spots of violet-purple and silver. Apparently it's an Elaphrus ruscarius, but there are many beautiful beetles among the Carabidae and the Buprestidae especially. I just thought I'd say that if you ever run out of spiders, there's a world of gorgeous beetles out there!
