Anyone read Amber Benson's stuff?

[personal profile] siofrabunnies 2013-05-02 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I was browsing at Barnes and Noble, and I came across this series, the Calliope Reaper-Jones books by Amber Benson.

I like the idea, especially Death in a father role, but I don't like to buy books I'm this unsure about. The Amazon rating is high, but I really don't trust Amazon reviewers. I don't mind shallow, easily read writing. But how are the characters? Is it fun and entertaining? Has anyone read it? Is is worth buying?

I tried but I just have such a hard time getting into first person writing. Just a personal thing. I do know some friends who enjoyed the series, saying it's a fun entertaining read with likeable characters.

Good enough for me! Thanks!

I always like to check the Amazon reviews against GoodReads because people there will tell you exactly how they felt about it and why. They exclusively rate the content of the books vs. people on Amazon who might be rating a third party seller, the binding condition, or the weather at their aunt's house that day.

Thank you so much. I need a better review site.

Yeah, Amazon's reviews are just... not. I once saw a person give a KitchenAid mixer a one-star review because they didn't like the color. Which he, himself, bought wrong.

My fiance reviewed that book once. Said it was incredibly silly, but ultimately, not terrible if you just want a little time-waster.
