I always like to check the Amazon reviews against GoodReads because people there will tell you exactly how they felt about it and why. They exclusively rate the content of the books vs. people on Amazon who might be rating a third party seller, the binding condition, or the weather at their aunt's house that day.

Yeah, Amazon's reviews are just... not. I once saw a person give a KitchenAid mixer a one-star review because they didn't like the color. Which he, himself, bought wrong.
